Where To Live On NSW South Coast

Ulladulla

Home to Lynns removals & Storage, Ulladulla is a vibrant town located near beautiful surf beaches and stunning lakes. Just under three hours drive south of Sydney, real estate is still affordable and there are good services and a selection of shops.

Batemans Bay

A popular holiday spot, Batemans Bay has a laid-back vibe with stunning beaches, incredible seafood and a whole range of outdoor activities. Four hours from Sydney, many residents choose to travel the two hours to Canberra for specialist services and airport access.

Kangaroo Valley

Just two hours from Sydney is the rural town of Kangaroo Valley. A nature lovers’ paradise, pastoral land stretches for miles, punctuated by vibrant rainforests and winding rivers. The pies are pretty good too! Kangaroo Valley’s population at the 2016 census was 879, with 245 of these families.

Berry

Located in the Shoalhaven, Berry is a charming town full of heritage buildings and award-winning restaurants. With the opening of the Berry bypass in 2017, heavy traffic through the town has dramatically decreased, and there are a number of housing developments in progress to meet demand.

Central Tilba

With a population of just 288 (2016 Census), Central Tilba is an enchanting village just inland from Narooma. Most residents are employed in the tourism and hospitality sector, and dairy farming is still a strong industry.

Wollongong

If you like cities but don’t want to be in Sydney, Wollongong is an excellent choice (if you can afford it). This once affordable regional town is now Australia’s third most expensive city, but for a good reason. Wollongong has retained its beach town feel, and as it’s only 80 km south of Sydney, many workers make the daily commute.

Kiama

South of Wollongong but still in the Illawarra region, you’ll find Kiama, another lovely relaxed beach town. Fishing, surfing, and kayaking are among the locals’ favourite activities; there’s also good shopping and cafes and restaurants. Get in quick though as house prices are on the rise.

Merimbula

At the far southern end of the South Coast (and starting the Sapphire Coast) is Merimbula, featuring stunning beaches, great fishing, spectacular wilderness and an abundance of seafood. Six hours drive from Sydney and three from Canberra, this gem of the South Coast might be far from the big cities, but there is an airport. Regional Express operates daily direct flights to Sydney and Melbourne and weekly direct flights to Moruya.

Nowra

Nowra-Bomaderry is a town of 30,853 residents and is the commercial centre of the Shoalhaven area. With a thriving business district, a train line to Sydney and easy access to the beautiful beaches of Jervis Bay, there’s a lot of positives to Nowra. Property prices are affordable too.
